Miles White Beneficial Society of Baltimore City
The Miles White Beneficial Society of Baltimore City was founded and incorporated in 1874 with a bequest from Miles White, a member of the Eutaw Street Quaker Meeting. The Miles White Beneficial Society aims to:
- identify and support organizations that address long-standing historical inequities by providing essential services to residents in communities in Baltimore City
- support young people in developing intellectual and spiritual strength to advance social justice in the city of Baltimore.
- support forward-thinking activities that stimulate the pursuit of equity and justice in the city of Baltimore.

2023 Miles White Organizational Grants
The Miles White Beneficial Society of Baltimore City (MWBS) is now accepting applications from non-profit organizations for grants of up to $5,000. The MWBS is a 501(c)(3) organization affiliated with the Baltimore Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).
Preference for 2023 organizational grants will be given to applicant organizations that promote social justice in the city of Baltimore. For purposes of this application, an organization promotes social justice if it increases equity and opportunity.
The MWBS is offering three types of organizational grants for 2023:
- Health and Human Services Grants: These grants are for projects or programs designed to meet the basic human needs of the residents of Baltimore City.
- Education and Enrichment Grants: These grants are for projects or programs that provide school-year or summer-focused educational or enrichment programs to young people in Baltimore City.
- Innovation Grant: This grant is to support a project that involves forward-thinking, innovative strategies in the pursuit of equity and justice in the City of Baltimore and a new approach to addressing social justice issues.
Please clearly indicate on your application which type of grant your organization is applying for.

2023 Miles White Scholarship Announcement
The Miles White Beneficial Society of Baltimore City (MWBS) is now accepting applications for scholarships of up to $5,000 from students who are planning to enter, or currently attend, an undergraduate college, university, or trade school. The MWBS is a 501(c)(3) organization affiliated with the Baltimore Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).
Scholarships will be awarded based on application quality, among other criteria, to individuals who are:
- Current Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS) or certified home school seniors who live in Baltimore City;
- BCPS graduates; or
- Members/attenders of a Baltimore Yearly Meeting Monthly Meeting.

The application deadline is March 15, 2023.
Applicants will be notified of funding decisions in May 2023. Scholarship funds are released directly to educational institutions beginning in July 2023.
