Baltimore Yearly Meeting is the regional organizing unit for the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in the area of central Pennsylvania, Maryland, parts of West Virginia, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. It is through membership in a Yearly Meeting that individual Quakers become connected with the larger Quaker movement worldwide. Baltimore Yearly Meeting (BYM) is seeking a Camping Program Manager. The Baltimore Yearly Meeting Camping Program is a religious education program carried out in a diverse inclusive community in an outdoor setting. The Camping Program Manager, with the oversight and assistance of the Camping Program Committee (CPC), is responsible for the Yearly Meeting’s camp programs, which provide a summer camping experience for 500-600 young people aged 9-17 each year.
The Camping Program Manager engages in the ministry of empowering BYM workers, campers and work grantees to safely work, play, learn and worship in a creative spiritual community. The Camping Program Manager directly supervises the Camp Directors of Catoctin Quaker Camp, Shiloh Quaker Camp, Opequon Quaker Camp, and Teen Adventure Quaker Camp. The Camping Program Manager works closely with the Camp Property Manager, the Camp Directors, and other camp staff. The Camping Program Manager implements the goals, directions and policies set by the Camping Program Committee for the successful annual operation of the camp program.
The Camping Program Manager cultivates inclusiveness across the camping program with particular attention to young adults, people of color, people of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, and people of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. The Camping Program Manger provides leadership to camp staff to create a safe place for all campers and staff, takes steps to ensure that all elements of camp programs are safe for all participants, and investigates any incidents that may occur. The Camping Program Manager applies the tests of BYM’s Anti-Racist Declaration to all aspects of the Camping Program.
The Camping Program Manager is responsible to and is directly supervised by the General Secretary. Among other key duties, the Camping Program Manager supervises the Camp Directors, coordinates all seasonal personnel (currently over 120), and manages the work grant program for all adult volunteers (currently over 120). A number of supervisory duties continue throughout the non-camping seasons.
Baltimore Yearly Meeting is a vibrant Quaker organization comprised of more than 50 worshipping communities and 6,500 members across the mid-Atlantic region. Since the first gathering of Friends in Maryland in 1672, BYM has had a long, rich history of worship and social witness. This vibrancy is demonstrated today in an array of programs, the largest of which is the residential summer camping program. BYM is dedicated to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout the Yearly Meeting.

Salary and Benefits: Baltimore Yearly Meeting endeavors to provide salaries and benefits in line with those of other non-profit positions in the Washington metropolitan area. The salary range for this position is $58,000 to $75,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include: health and dental coverage; long-term disability insurance; term life insurance; eleven paid holidays; annual, personal, medical, maternity/paternity and adoption, and sabbatical leaves; retirement contribution.

Creating Meeting Cultures that Welcome Diverse Youth and Young Adults
The current disruption in society is shaking the foundations of culture and faith. In the turmoil, youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds may seek spiritual community in Friends Meetings. Families of color in relationship with Friends schools, and children of color who connect with Friends at Quaker camp, may come to monthly and yearly meetings seeking spiritual community. How can Friends’ Meetings embody Martin Luther King’s vision of the Beloved Community?
• How can we prepare our monthly meetings to welcome diverse young newcomers?
• During this time when geography is less of a barrier, how can Friends of color mentor young people who seek community in Quaker meetings?
• How can Quaker religious educators, particularly Friends who identify as white, do the deep personal work of becoming anti-racist?
• What discernment and anti-racism training should be taken by volunteers who work with children and youth?
