Our Faith Community is comprised of Monthly Meetings and other local worshiping communities in Maryland, Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia, Virginia, and West Virginia. We practice "unprogrammed" Quaker worship. That is, we gather together in silent worship to wait on the word of God. We do not make use of paid clergy or sacramental rituals. Rather, we meet each other in worship, and anyone who feels led to speak can do so. The work of the local worshiping community is carried out primarily by volunteer committees, and many Friends give their time and resources to promote peace, justice, and integrity in the wider world. Monthly Meetings worship together weekly and get their name from the monthly business meeting, in which Friends make decisions together as a community. Preparative, Allowed, and Indulged Meetings and Worship Groups are typically smaller or less formal meetings, but these communities still gather weekly to worship together.
