Afternoon and Evening Information Sessions, Wednesday Jan 20th
For six years the Working Group on Diversity at Camps has been working to diversify Catoctin Quaker Camp by building community with young people from Philadelphia. The results have been substantial increases in the number of campers and staff of color as well as high retention rates for those members of our community. Now this winning model is coming to Charm City. Come learn more about this new initiative and how you can be a part of expanding this program to all of the camps, as well as to Monthly Meetings and BYM as a whole. The afternoon session will be at Homewood Friends Meeting (3107 North Charles Street) at 2:00pm and the evening session will be at the home of Sandy Robson and Jesse Austell (2108 Erdman Avenue). To RSVP or for more information, contact Dyresha Harris, Outreach and Inclusion Coordinator. (oic@bym-rsf.org or 301-774-7663)
The BYM Women’s Retreat will be held in a new location in 2016.: Pearlstone Retreat Center in Reisterstown, MD, is about 45 minutes west of Baltimore and an hour from Washington. The Pearlstone location offers a number of benefits, especially in relation to accessibility and safety (covered walkways, elevators, etc.), as well as comfortable accommodations, plenty of meeting rooms, and excellent food. Scholarships will be available. Stay tuned for additional details! (For those of you who are wondering about Skycroft Conference Center where the Women’s Retreat was held since 2010, costs there increased 35%, prompting the search for a new location.) Come to Pearlstone on January 29-31, 2016, and see for yourself!
