Jules led a workshop in printmaking as the 2011 Quaker and the Arts Conference for Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and more recently presented a demonstration on woodblock printing at the Baltimore Musuem of Art. The workshop will begin with a Meeting for Worship at which time attendees are allowed time to envision the image that their prayers bring to mind. Participants will create a 5”x7” image that speaks to their prayer in wood or linoleum and carve the relief image. The image will be printed on paper an then on cloth.

The Clearing

On Saturday, October 29th, the Midlothian Friends Meeting Care and Community committee is sponsoring a Fun Fall Retreat at The Clearing in Amelia County; 70 acres of woods with a lodge, trails, and an outdoor pavilion with a fireplace. Midlothian Friends Meeting will have this special place all to ourselves. It will be a family and singles event with a focus on having fun in a light-hearted social setting. This fun event will begin at 2pm with an all-age Friendly Dodge Ball Circle, a unique, safe, and fun version of dodge ball- whether you are 8 or 80(you can be a cheer leader if you don't want to play); followed by an all-age Egg Exchange race. Dinner will be provided by the Care and Community committee in order to reduce your personal stress in getting to the event (no need to bring a side dish to share unless you want to). There will be grilling of hamburgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers on the open fireplace in the Pavilion at the Clearing, along with some simple side dishes provided. The evening will wind up with guitar playing and singing (bring your own instruments to add to the fun), in time for departure at 6pm . . . unless . . . you would like to spend the night at the Clearing. If so, there are plenty of tent sites, two sleeping cabins, sleeping in the lodge, and sleeping in the outdoor pavilion near the fireplace - you have your choice. The Care and Community committee is hopeful you will take this opportunity to relax, enjoy nature, and have fun! Bring your friends, too! Directions to The Clearing can be viewed and printed at http://theclearing.net/directions.htm. Print out the attached flyer to hang on your refrigerator or give to your family/friend.
