Friends School of Harford

We are a co-ed private kindergarten through middle school located in Harford County, Maryland that is guided by Quaker values and strives for academic and personal excellence. Within our vigorous academic program, students enjoy challenges, solve problems responsibly, and become capable, confident leaders. They are encouraged to do their best and be their best. Our warm and nurturing community enables children to take healthy risks and grow in confidence and ability as they become active valued members in making their world a better place.

Exciting programming nurtures a joy for learning, inspires compassion, community service, and develops a student’s personal skills. Students learn to engage conflict with proven strategies, not run from it. They learn to value and practice character traits like integrity, listening well to others, saying what you mean, and meaning what you say. Students build the emotional and intellectual foundation that they will need for learning academic excellence, to live as independent thinkers, and lead as creative problem solvers that will aid them throughout life.

Quaker values of peace, simplicity, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship inspire us. By “seeing that of God in everyone” our teachers and students establish a level of mutual respect and appreciation for the gifts, perspectives, and value each person possesses. Through a belief in “continuing revelation” we teach the discipline of open-mindedness. Students ask questions, pursue answers, and learn to assess the sources and value of information for themselves. Students develop a life-long discipline of thinking.
