Quaker Peace Roundtable A Success

The Quaker Peace Roundtable was held in good order last weekend. In all there were 122 registered, from as far away as Maine, California, Oregon, Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina, along with several Meeting folks, plus a class from our First Day School for the final plenary. The program included a panel of veteran Quaker peace activists recounting their own personal journeys; sixteen workshops on matters from Music and Activism to a troubled peacekeeping mission in East Timor; and a closing panel on "What Keeps Us Going." We even made the TV news on Channel 23 Friday night! The QPR Committee is immensely grateful for all the enthusiastic help and support from Friends and attenders. Special thanks are due to Mark Ott, who clerked an acclaimed Food Committee; Margie Gaffron for her early work on breakfast and endlessly scrumptious baked goods; Campbell Plowden, who handled key aspects of the setup and recovery; and of course the Friends School, in particular the 7-8th graders and their parental aides who prepared and served Saturday's smash hit lasagna dinner. There were many others who helped too, and we'll do our best to have a complete list of 'thank-yous' for the May newsletter. Feedback from those at the Roundtable was very positive, especially for the 'down home' atmosphere that was made possible by the local involvement. Good work, Friends! - The QPR Committee

PS. We are also pleased to announce that the QPR website has been redesigned, and a large batch of notes and papers from the plenaries and workshops have been uploaded. So while the Roundtable as an event is over, its life as a tool for wider outreach has just begun. Check it out at: www.quaker.org/qpr - and spread the word.

April Food Bank Needs

For April the State College Area Food Bank needs: macaroni and cheese, chili or canned pasta, canned meats (chicken, turkey, tuna, or ham), canned soups and bars of soap. Currently they do not need, canned tomatoes/tomato sauce or beans. Monetary donations are welcome and can be sent to: Food Bank, PO Box 907, State College, PA 16804.

Transitions

Doug Miller's mother, Dorothy, passed away in Iowa on April 6, after a long illness.

Let's Do Lunch - May 16

Come to the Meeting house any time after 11:30 am. Bring a bag lunch, drink, and something to share if you wish (this does not have to be food - a magazine article, book, music, a joke, pictures of your grandkids, a concern - whatever you would like). This is a no cleanup occasion unless you want to take on that responsibility. We are hoping for conversation (both serious and non), connections, and fellowship. Initially we will meet once a month; the next lunch dates are scheduled for May 16. Watch the bulletin and newsletter for future dates.

But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her. Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
