The Prison Journal is published by the Prison Committee of the Sandy Spring Friends Meeting (Quakers). This Committee visits men in a local prison, seeks an understanding of prison issues, and is developing a list of resources for prisoners. Our current plans are to publish this journal quarterly.
The Journal is composed of essays, poems, and art work from inmates throughout the country. It is our aim to offer an outlet for prisoners’ creative talents, to show them that their work is recognized, and to give them a feeling of self-worth. You can help in this work by publicizing this project among those you know within the prison system as well as on the outside world.
We are currently accepting short essays, poems, and drawings (no larger than 8.5” x 14”) from inmates from all geographic locations. Submissions must include inmate name, ID number, and complete address. Due to the large volume of submissions we are not able to publish all we receive. Inmates who submit an entry, or who request a copy of the Journal, will receive an issue at no charge.
