Autumn Falls

by Augustine Fortune

Leaves are beginning to fall from trees
Floating gracefully down to the ground
The air is fresh and crisp
Their rustling is the only sound.

Vibrant shades of yellow green and orange
Play on the leaf tips
Some animals begin to hibernate
Weather is changing; one can feel the coming nip.

Storing away shorts and tee shirts
Opting for jeans, long sleeves and sweaters
It is the most practical thing to do
In preparation for autumn’s weather.

Football, Halloween, and Thanksgiving
Are highlights of this season
Looking around at all the leaves on the ground
Why it’s called “Fall” is evident in reason.

Back to school, summer break is over,
Children wearing new clothing Mom and Dad bought them.
The third season we have come to know and love
Some call it Fall, others call it Autumn.
