"If I Wrote You A Letter What Would It Say"

If I wrote you a letter what would it say?
Could I write that I help to keep the "Dream" alive?
Or just let it slip away!
Could I say that I've voted or had my "Rights" taken away?
Could I say that I've stood for "All People" or just my people?
If wrote you-a letter what would it-say?
Could I write that I helped the community?
Or just let it slip away!
My conditions aren't dog's biting, the back of the bus or back door.
If I wrote you a letter could I say that from the bites of the past and
Seats in the back all just to walk in the back that I have "Over Come"!
Or just let it slip away after all the mamas cries why-why-why...
My baby had to die...
They said "Nigger" to keep one in their place, thought of as second class
And would beat that ass.
If I wrote you a letter what would it say?
Could I write that I help keep the "Dream" alive?
0r just let it slip away!
Could I say that I teach the history of the word "Nigger"?
Or just let it slip away...
The "Mountain Top" is it closer now or farther away?
My eyes have seen due to "You" but are they now blind?
