Try to remember her very first day,
You stood there watching her sleep where she lay.

Next came her first smile, at the ducks on the wall,
Then her very first steps and all of those falls.

The first day of school and oh how she cried,
But nothing as bad as the day her fish died.

Remember how she laughed when Grand Ma came to stay,
The prettiest little angel in the Christmas play.

A teenager now, so embarrassed, “Oh Dad!”
“Your curfew is 10”, and boy is she mad.

Then came college in a co-ed dorm,
“Will someone please tell me, is this the norm?”

All night studies, and Homecoming Dance,
And why does she have to wear Hip-Hugger pants?

Then came the big day, when I gave her away,
And I was the one who kept crying that day.

A few years later she’s having a baby of her own,
“Dad, it’s time to get the car, will you get off the phone!”
