Have They All Forgot?

by Alfred Caswell

When the mailman doesn’t stop,
Maybe they just forgot.
When no one answers the phone,
Is it just no one’s home?

When we do go home,
Will we just be alone?
It seems as if no one even cares.
God, will I ever wake from this nightmare?

Who else can I even blame?
I, myself, am the one with all the shame.
I look for somewhere to point my finger;
All I see is the face in the mirror.

Will I ever admit that I’m at fault,
Or look for the scapegoat I’ve always sought?
Maybe I deserve to sit here and rot.
I’m the one they all forgot.
