One More Reason
by Darrell Wilkins
Be renewed in Spirit, soul, body and mind
Let all your worries and troubles fall behind
This is written thought that it may be of help to you,
On behalf of everyday situations we all go through.
I’ve made my mistakes, and crimes were committed
Yet with this attitude of mine, I was sure to be acquitted.
I had an opportunity for trial, and an opportunity to run,
But God spoke and said, “There are some things you need to
see, my son”.
So, I was put behind these walls
Where all criminals are sent,
Not just to dwell on my life thus far
But also to repent.
I then realized the fight I fight
Was a battle not of my own,
So I gave myself, my life to God
Knowing I’d no longer be alone.
On this walk, there’s been some tests
Some small, some very grand,
But if anything I’ve learned so far
Is my complete faith is where I stand.
Some of you, who may read this
Still hold onto what you call a life,
Of stealing, lying, fornicating
Your normal day of strife.
That is no way to waste your life
Believe me, I should know
Because I once was just the same
Before I chose to grow.
I have two children, and my family
Whom I miss and love so dear,
But since I gave my life to Christ
My family is also here.
I’m no poet, this is no sermon,
Of things still yet to come.
This is simply how I express myself
Of the life that I came from.
But if you got something from my writing
That maybe you’d like to try,
Like giving yourself, your life to Christ
Here’s just one more reason why.
