Bear with us, Lord, a little while,
Being weak like you made us; as
Impotent to save as to endure; with
Small space, to learn, reflect upon,
And consider many ways. So, pray,
Use patience, withhold your wrath,
Be merciful for we’re merely clay
Faulty, fickle, sluggish, rash,
And wayward. Vulnerable to all
Sorts of fits, moods, and passions
Against right. Tempted, affected
By needs and wants; dissatisfied,
Intemperate, unwielding, and at times…
Lusty and insatiable. Quite
Proud, hard, stubborn, apathetic;
Led poorly or purposely misled;
Stumbling, staggering like drunkards,
Unpredictable as weather. Dull,
Deceived, confused, frequently blind
And when we do see, often, too often,
It’s too late. So, forgive us, Lord,
For you created us, bear with us,
Strengthen us both to stand and do.
