Solitude (Excerpts)

by Jesse Campbell

This is a small booklet I wrote while going through a very hard time locked in the Hole; segregation, no windows, no one to talk to, and no books to read--only a Bible. No friends, no penpal--only verbal abuse, fear of trial, loss of family and friends. 2003

Can you feel the pressure of the cell? Is it giving you a headache? Is it hard for you to sleep? Are you anxious? Are you angry? Have you been having regrets? Have you decided your life isn’t worth living? These are all beginning levels of sorting out your life.

Right now you may feel alone or abandoned — these are all beginning stages to comfort, yes, comfort. As you become aware of your solitude, you will begin to feel impatient, your thoughts will be evil, your mouth will begin to vomit out words that are full of hatred towards those who you may have had bad run-ins or conversations with. This is an aspect of withdrawal. Remember your eyes and ears and your mouth are the way for nourishing yourself and spirit, so whatever you’ve been in contact with is gonna be what you are affected by.

…Also your mind adds on imaginations and these things may become a reality to you. The world is full of noises and disruptions and confusions; there is no order in the world… These are only temporary, although you must accept your discomforts for what they are, they are discomforts — nothing more, so don’t let your mind tell you anything more. As a matter of fact, it’s time you let Solitude work in your life. That’s why you must embrace solitude.

While in these times of solitude a man can be purified and cleansed of those ideas by receiving Jesus and allowing Jesus’ words to take over, for Jesus’ words and life become YOUR words and your way of living. While alone in time — facing self and dealing with God on a one-on-one basis, all things begin to open up through the Revelation and Revealings of Him who shows us all things in the spirit.

A man’s mind must be recreated, or should I say “born again”. The world’s order will always change, but Jesus is the same now and forever. You reach a deep peace that only Jesus can give. This peace is not of the world, and this peace the world cannot take away. So in these times of solitude … all the might and victory is given to Jesus at every second and every minute, and every hour in everything that is … the whole earth is filled with his glory!
