A Note from our Friends in Iowa Yearly Meeting:
Our dear Friends throughout FUM,
Our Yearly Meeting office has been contacted by many of you regarding financial help for the flooding and tornado damages here in Iowa. We feel very humble with your offers of help.
We are just now in the process of contacting our churches and finding out the damage to meeting property and damage to congregation member’s property. Our initial survey suggests that our meeting houses have been spared. However, some personal homes and/or basements have been flooded and in most cases there is no flood insurance.
Our Iowa chapter of Friends Disaster Service is currently working on possible Parkersburg tornado rebuilding efforts. They will be seeking avenues to help in that area in the near future. Also, if we can identify the needs will assist where we can as a result of the current flooding situation.
In regards to the flooding, we are prepared to set up a special fund for our meetings to access in order to help those in need (or without insurance) within their meeting. Money would be allocated carefully to help with cleaning, restoring and replacement of clothing and goods. Of course, some of these worst problems are being felt by persons who have the least to recover with.
Thank you all so much, for your prayers and contacts.
