Operation House Call
Operation House Call (
www.operationhousecall.org) is sponsored by Military Families Speak Out (
www.mfso.org) and aided by the Chicago AFSC office,
the originators of the Eyes Wide Open exhibit. The vigil includes combat
boots representing each U.S. military person who has been killed since June
15 - the most recent time that Congress voted to stay the course in Iraq -
and civilian shoes representing Iraqis who are dying every day. MFSO
members are standing with the boots and shoes, visiting representatives and
senators, and attending hearings each day of the session.
The comments from passersby and from Representatives who stop and offer
their support at the vigil is very encouraging. But we need all of us
working together to be heard during this critical time.
Please lend your voice to those calling for an end to this madness.
Please encourage active participation by all of those concerned about the
fate of our country.
And please, do all that you can to make sure every eligible voter is
registered for all of the upcoming elections.
Operation House Call is a daily vigil of military families in Washington DC.
Each day from June 22 - August 4th that Congress is in session, members of
Military Families Speak Out will stand across from the Capitol, at the
corner of New Jersey and Independence Avenues, with combat boots
representing US troops and shoes representing Iraqis who have died since
June 15, 2006 - the day Congress voted to "stay the course" in Iraq and the
day the 2,500th troop death occurred. MFSO members will also visit the
offices of Senators and Members of Congress. When Congress goes on recess on
August 4th, military families will continue to pressure their Senators and
Representatives in their home states and districts.
Peace,
Tia Steele
