From Hopewell Centre Friends:
The members of Hopewell Centre Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) mourn the loss of our Friend, Tom Fox. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and especially his beloved children Kassie and Andrew. We continue to pray for the safe release of the other Christian Peacemaker Team (CPT) workers James Loney, Norman Kember and Harmeet Singh Sooden. In the months since their capture, we have been heartened by the outpouring of support from our community, especially from the Muslim community here in Winchester.
We pray also from the safe release of all who are being held hostage, wherever they may be.
Tom was committed to his work in Iraq and he gave his life in an attempt to bring justice and peace to the Iraqi people. He was not naive about the dangers he faced; he felt that this work was of utmost importance and was willing to face those dangers with love and courage. We need to remember that our loss is replicated every day by thousands of Iraqis whose loved ones have
been kidnapped and/or killed in the war. Peace and justice belong to them also. Although we are grieving, we will continue to honor Tom by keeping alive in the Light the work for which he held such passion. (Clearbrook, VA, 3/11/06)
