Development Director position open
The Development Director of Baltimore Yearly Meeting reports to the General Secretary, working with committees and staff to carry out a comprehensive development plan that communicates the financial needs of BYM to Monthly Meetings, organizations, and individuals within and beyond the Yearly Meeting. By fostering deeper communication the Development Director helps to build stronger relationships and to engender support. (more...)
Director, Peace Tax Fund sought
The Boards of the National Campaign for a Peace Tax Fund and the Peace Tax Foundation seek to employ an organizational leader who will advance our legislative efforts to pass the Religious Freedom Peace Tax Fund Bill in the U.S. Congress; nurture and support our work of being an articulate voice and witness regarding the issue of conscientious objection to military taxation (COMT) (more...)
Interim Meeting Minutes - March 2008
Baltimore Yearly Meeting met in Williamsburg, Virginia last March where it received reports and approved actions.
BYM united on sending funds to the Kenyan Relief Fund administered by FUM. The FUM Board pushes for "spiritual purity" on the Board. (more...)
Betsy Meyer approved as Interim Meeting Clerk
Elizabeth "Betsy" Meyer is well known to Friends as the enthusiastic organizer of the Baltimore Yearly Meeting Spiritual Formation Program which strongly continues to this day. A long term member and past Clerk of Sandy Spring Meeting, Betsy has represented Baltimore Yearly Meeting as its representative to the Friends World Committee for Consultation (more...)
The April 2008 edition of the Sandy Spring Prison Journal is now online. Prison ministry has long been important to Quakers, and the Sandy Spring Friends ministry has been active for about 30 years. All material in this publication was produced by persons currently incarcerated. (more...)
BYFN April Newsletter
The April Workcamp Conference is soooon! April 11-13th at Catoctin Quaker Camp. Because last year's workcamp was so much fun, we decided that instead of a bus con we will again do a workcamp conference! (more...)
BYM Committees unite on funding FUM
The "Committee of Four Committees" unites on a minute "to release to FUM the monies withheld since 2004". This minute will be brought to Interim Meeting on March 29th for approval. (more...)

The Spiritual Basis for Unity - 1964The Committees appointed by the two Baltimore Yearly Meetings to study together the question of what in our religious experience would justify the union of the Yearly Meetings see that much spiritual basis for unity now exists among us. This is evident in the uniting of a number of local Meetings, so that at present almost half the membership of the two Yearly Meetings is in united Meetings... (more...)

The Yearly Meeting Clerk sent the following letter to all monthly meetings: Dear Friends, A few years ago, Baltimore Yearly Meeting asked our Monthly Meetings to discuss the yearly meeting’s financial contributions to Friends United Meeting. Michael Cronin, Interim Meeting Clerk, Steps Down
Friends are expressing appreciation to Michael Cronin, who served as Clerk of Interim Meeting beginning in 2003. He resigned this position November 27, 2007. During his period of service as Clerk of Interim Meeting and of Supervisory Committee, Michael helped the Yearly Meeting through an important time of transition. (more...)

Young Friends’ latest project is the reconstruction of the wall separating the men and women in the Meeting House. (more...)
Women's Retreat - Report
I attended the Women’s retreat as a part of a family tradition. I went to my first retreat in 1997 at the invitation of my mother. It was her idea that since I was in high school, and had gotten my period, I was now a woman. She shared the excitement for my budding womanhood with her friend, whom she knew since before I was born, and had a daughter the same age as me... (more...)
YAF December ConferenceOver 20 young adult Friends (YAFs) from Baltimore Yearly Meeting gathered at Homewood Friends Meeting the weekend of December 14 through 16 for a conference/retreat on the theme of "Sharing Our Spiritual Journeys." Kevin-Douglas Olive from Homewood led an interactive workshop introducing Quaker Quest, an outreach program developed by Friends in Britain (the other "BYM"!). (more...)

Seek Peace and Pursue It
Since October 15, 2002, at this silent vigil for peace has taken place each week on the West Lawn of the US Capitol. Started by Quakers, this vigil is not a protest, nor a march, but a non-partisan, ecumenical silent vigil, under the simple banner, “Seek Peace and Pursue It," a quote from Psalms 34. (more...)

Friends House recommendation is unanimous
When considering a nursing home for your spouse or your parents, how would you like to be able to interview the spouses and children of current residents of that nursing home? What questions would you want to ask? Does the resident get medication on time? Is there enough staff on all shifts to provide sufficient help? Are the hallways and public areas kept odor free? The Quaker Universalist Fellowship announces the publication of the "Quaker Universalist Reader Number 3: Universalism and Spirituality", edited by Patricia A. Williams. This new publication collects the writings of thirty-six Quaker authors from Great Britain and the U.S. (more...)
Criminal & Restorative Justice
Are you interested in the wellbeing of people in federal and military prisons? Would you be willing to visit prisoners once a month, or to represent Baltimore Yearly Meeting in an organization devoted to the welfare of prisoners? We are looking for a Friend to represent BYM on the Prisoner Visitation and Support Board of directors, which meets two or three times a year in Philadelphia. (more...)
BYM Educational Loans.
The BYM Educational Loan Committee is reevaluating its loan program. For 2008 loans will be made only to those students who were funded last year, if they are still in school. We hope that next year we can open the program to new applicants again. For more information contact Oliver Moles, clerk
