Interchange - Fall 2006

In early July, Graham Leonard of Frederick Meeting gave a talk sponsored by Shepherdstown Meeting on his recent experiences in Iraq and other parts of the Middle East, along with the work of the Christian Peacemakers. His talk provided a lot of historical context for the current crisis and was very well received.

We said farewell in late July to our Friend Linda Tate, who is moving to Colorado. We appreciate her efforts that helped lead us to our allowed status as part of Frederick Meeting, and we wish her well in her new adventures and new job.

In August attenders of Shepherdstown Meeting spent an afternoon at the Friends Wilderness Center in Harpers Ferry. We enjoyed a picnic on the porch of the Niles Cabin, hiked to the tree house, and enjoyed some silent worship in the meditation center.

This fall we will start our book group with two books, Collapse by Jared Diamond and God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn’t Get It by Jim Wallis. We will hold our book discussions along with a pot-luck at the rise of meeting at people’s homes.

Shepherdstown Allowed Meeting gathers each Sunday for worship at 10:30 am in the back room of Four Seasons Bookstore on German Street in Shepherdstown. People who would like to be informed of the activities of Shepherdstown Meeting can join our yahoo list serve. In order to join the group and be able to get and send future emails, go to www.yahoogroups.com and enter our group name (shepfriends). From there, you will be able to choose to “join this group."
