Patapsco Friends Meeting proposes that mediation be sought to address the differences among Baltimore Yearly Meeting (BYM), the other dually affiliated yearly meetings, and the leadership of Friends United Meeting (FUM). The Development Director of Baltimore Yearly Meeting reports to the General Secretary, working with committees and staff to carry out a comprehensive development plan that communicates the financial needs of BYM to Monthly Meetings, organizations, and individuals within and beyond the Yearly Meeting. Baltimore Yearly Meeting met in Williamsburg, Virginia last March where it received reports and approved actions. BYM united on sending funds to the Kenyan Relief Fund administered by FUM. The FUM Board pushes for "spiritual purity" on the Board. (more...)

The Committees appointed by the two Baltimore Yearly Meetings to study together the question of what in our religious experience would justify the union of the Yearly Meetings see that much spiritual basis for unity now exists among us. Friends are expressing appreciation to Michael Cronin, who served as Clerk of Interim Meeting beginning in 2003. He resigned this position November 27, 2007. During his period of service as Clerk of Interim Meeting and of Supervisory Committee, Michael helped the Yearly Meeting through an important time of transition. (more...)

To address the concerns of Baltimore Yearly Meeting, Young Friends have returned to traditional dress, spend their days isolated in separate rooms, and, during conferences, avidly read the journals of George Fox. Young Friends’ latest project is the reconstruction of the wall separating the men and women in the Meeting House. (more...)

I attended the Women’s retreat as a part of a family tradition. I went to my first retreat in 1997 at the invitation of my mother. It was her idea that since I was in high school, and had gotten my period, I was now a woman. She shared the excitement for my budding womanhood with her friend, whom she knew since before I was born, and had a daughter the same age as me... (more...)

Over 20 young adult Friends (YAFs) from Baltimore Yearly Meeting gathered at Homewood Friends Meeting the weekend of December 14 through 16 for a conference/retreat on the theme of "Sharing Our Spiritual Journeys." Since October 15, 2002, at this silent vigil for peace has taken place each week on the West Lawn of the US Capitol. Started by Quakers, this vigil is not a protest, nor a march, but a non-partisan, ecumenical silent vigil, under the simple banner, “Seek Peace and Pursue It," a quote from Psalms 34. (more...)

When considering a nursing home for your spouse or your parents, how would you like to be able to interview the spouses and children of current residents of that nursing home? What questions would you want to ask? Does the resident get medication on time? Is there enough staff on all shifts to provide sufficient help? Are the hallways and public areas kept odor free? Would you be willing to visit prisoners once a month, or to represent Baltimore Yearly Meeting in an organization devoted to the welfare of prisoners? We are looking for a Friend to represent BYM on the Prisoner Visitation and Support Board of directors, which meets two or three times a year in Philadelphia. (more...)
