Welcome to Baltimore Yearly Meeting!
Baltimore Yearly Meeting builds and nurtures a strong and vibrant Quaker community across the Mid-Atlantic. We seek to build community, grow in the life of the spirit, discern right action, and bear witness in the world. BYM includes Quaker meetings in parts of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. The BYM Office, located in Sandy Spring, MD, provides technical support to local Quaker Meetings and opportunities for Quakers in our region to work, play, serve, learn, and grow spiritually together as Friends.
There will be a called Interim Meeting on the 20th of April at 1:30 pm (via Zoom) to discuss and hopefully approve Peace and Social Concerns Committee's recent minute on Ceasefire between Israel and Palestine. The minute received a first reading at Winter Interim Meeting on March 23rd, and Friends present agreed that the matter was too urgent to lay over until June Interim Meeting for a second reading. Earth Quaker Action Team (EQAT) is gathering on December 6 at PNC banks in five states as part of their Bank like Appalachia Matters (BLAM) campaign. The goal is to pressure PNC Bank to stop financing mountaintop removal coal mining.PNC Bank has a historical connection to the Religious Society of Friends and claims to be a green bank, yet is one of the largest financiers of mountain-top removal. We’ll carry out a challenge to their policy and their public image by sitting down and holding meeting for worship inside a local PNC bank. Local Friends have taken a training to lead this event and it will be held in the manner of Friends. The day will start with a mini-training at 9:00 am at Sandy Spring Friends School or another nearby location to be announced and then carpool to a PNC branch for the action.
