About Baltimore Yearly Meeting

Who are we

Baltimore Yearly Meeting includes 40 Monthly Meetings and 9 Preparative Meetings and Worship Groups (1995). These are grouped geographically into 6 Quarterly and Half-Yearly Meetings. In 1995, Baltimore Yearly Meeting had 4,395 full and 668 associate members.

What are we

Baltimore Yearly Meeting represents an extension and an expansion of Friends' basic spiritual community—the Monthly Meeting. As Friends from a wider geographic area share in worship, business and social and educational opportunities, the faith of all is broadened.

Baltimore Yearly Meeting is a member of Friends World Committee for Consultation, Friends General Conference, and Friends United Meeting

Where are we

Baltimore Yearly Meeting is comprised of Meetings in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia.

Baltimore Yearly Meeting maintains a central office in Sandy Spring, Maryland. The staff provides services to the Monthly Meetings, committees and individual members.

When are we

Baltimore Yearly Meeting grew out of a General Meeting of Friends in Maryland, in 1672, which was attended by George Fox himself. Fox wrote that after the public meetings there were "men's and women's meetings" [for business] "and I opened to Friends the service thereof and all were satisfied."

Baltimore Yearly Meeting has continued to meet in Session annually. Currently, it gathers the first week in August.
